I’ve always believed that creativity doesn’t belong in one box. That’s why my work moves between painting and woodworking so freely — sometimes even blending the two in unexpected ways.
When I’m painting, I find inspiration in the textures I work with as a woodworker: the flow of grain, the earthy tones of cedar or walnut, the way a surface reflects light differently after being oiled. And when I’m carving or sanding a board, I’m thinking like a painter — considering shape, contrast, movement.
Some weeks I spend more time in front of a canvas, layering mountain scenes and Canadian landscapes. Other weeks, it’s all sawdust and oil rags, as I build up a new series of charcuterie boards. The beauty is in the balance.
To me, creativity is a conversation — between tools, materials, and moods. And I’m always listening.
